queer + euphoria = [queerphoria]

queer - umbrella term that describes sexual and gender identities other than straight and cisgender

euphoria - a state of intense happiness and self-confidence

[queerphoria] is an exhibition that invites queer individuals into a meaningful conversation about their identity. Through these written and visual exhibitions, we encourage dialogue around the difficult topics that surround the relationship between the queer and non-queer community.

In light of current world events, artists experiencing censorship, transphobic and homophobic legislation, and the climate crisis, [queerphoria] returns to NYC Jewelry Week 2024 to create a space where artists are free to express themselves through the art of jewelry making and craft.

[queerphoria] volume 4 builds on the previous three volumes, in an immersive in-person exhibition exploring the concept of connection in its broadest form. Participants submitted work or engaged in discussions that explore their diverse interpretations of this theme; encompassing connection to culture, land, identity, politics, surroundings, nature, family, and more. By bringing together individual artists' works and stories, we create a collective narrative that creates an experience of belonging and community.

[queerphoria] is not only an exhibition, but an educational tool to shed light on queer makers and their practice, opening up a space for connection. [queerphoria] vol 4: connection is curated by Queer Metalsmiths’ co-founders SULO BEE, Tracey Carswell, and Rebecca Lee.

[queerphoria] is to be seen. [queerphoria] is to be felt. [queerphoria] is to be heard.

[queerphoria] volume 4: connection!!

We are excited to invite you to experience [queerphoria] volume 4: connection- an immersive in-person and virtual exhibit celebration connection through jewelry and craft.

This celebration of queer joy and connection was first exhibited during NYC Jewelry Week 2024 at UrbanGlass, a leading resource for both aspiring and established artists wishing to create with glass. They foster innovative art and advance the use and appreciation of glass as a creative medium. We were honored to host such a powerful exhibition of 42 skilled queer artists in-person in their space!

We are excited to exhibit [queerphoria] volume 4: connection in person at the ECU Symposium! Alongside a roster of talented artists and educators, you can also join our co-founder, SULO BEE, as the keynote speaker sharing about their work and creative process.

The Material Topics Symposium has been a production of Metal Design MFA students within the School of Art and Design within East Carolina University since 2009. Their 200+ attendees are beginners, hobbyists, sculptors, professional jewelers and metal artists, and current and retired faculty members.

Visit the exhibition:
January 17th to February 10th, 2025
Jenkins Fine Arts Center
E. 5th Street
Greenville, NC 27858

In addition to the in-person exhibition, we also selected over 60 talented queer artists to highlight in our virtual exhibition. We can't wait for you to experience work from around the world in a space that honors our queer community!

If you weren’t able to join us in person, stay tuned, we will also be cataloging the in-person exhibition on our website in the new year!
