“Bend Inward explores the fluidity of identity through the dynamic interplay of wire and paint, creating fragmented yet interconnected forms that evoke the human figure. As a queer artist, I embrace the multiplicity of self, allowing different versions of myself to coexist within the piece. The bold colors and fluid shapes express the tension between chaos and control, while the wire adds a physical element, inviting viewers to trace the contours and connect with their own bodies. Each layer is essential—without one, the image is incomplete—reflecting the complexity of identity and the spaces we inhabit in between.”
How does your work relate to the theme connection?
“This piece features three distinct materials, intricately layered and unified by wire, embodying the interplay of structure and spontaneity. By using my own body as the subject, I create a deeper connection between material and identity, highlighting themes of vulnerability and self-exploration. This approach emphasizes the intimate relationship I have developed with my art practice."

What role does connection play in your creative process?
“My art making is fundamentally about connection, as I continually explore new ways to physically and conceptually link diverse materials. By employing metalsmithing techniques, I add depth to my paintings, and conversely, I incorporate painting elements into my metalwork. This interplay enriches my practice, allowing for a dynamic exploration of how different mediums can come together to create a cohesive narrative."
What connection(s) does your queerness make to the world around you?
“My queerness allows me to explore themes of vulnerability in my artwork, creating a dialogue about the importance of emotional honesty. This connection invites others to engage with their own vulnerabilities, fostering understanding and empathy."
