Pavonis Giron is an illustrator and fine artist located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When not working on illustration, they follow sculptural pursuits in a variety of mediums, foremost of which are explorations of materials that can erode and change over time, complimenting subject matter that often finds its inspiration in geological forces and landmarks.
“Informed by geological forces, Pavonis Giron seeks to meld forms reminiscent of natural monumental structures with tactile explorations of interpersonal relationships to simultaneously call importance to and dissolve the significance of the individual.”
How does your work relate to the theme transformation— How does the work translate joy into strength?
"Chert (sometimes called jasper, agate, flint, or chalcedony) is a stone made from the dissolved silica skeletons of diatoms; microscopic creatures found in the water. Once the silica has become a liquid, it transforms into these precious and prized stones which dazzle us - though the individual bodies of the diatoms are also beautiful, we overlook their beauty when all we see them as is grains of sand. Much like many queer individuals, we find ourselves transformed - though beautiful throughout our journey, it is often through this transformation that we find a form we cherish, though the previous form is still a thing of value and beauty in many ways."

"The paper and steel in this piece, through rust and pulp, reflect a similar transformation when changed by mechanical, chemical, and natural processes."
